Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes is looking ahead to the 2025-26 season.
Harvey Barnes has reflected on a “historic” season for Newcastle United as he enjoys a period of rest before the new campaign.
Barnes played an important role during the remaining three months of last season as the Magpies won the Carabao Cup and finished fifth in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.
Before that, the 27-year-old was heading for another frustrating season in black and white. Still struggling to get into the team ahead of Anthony Gordon, Barnes suffered a muscular injury in January which ruled him out for a month.
Barnes joined from Leicester City for £38million in the summer of 2023 and was making only his second start for United when he sustained a foot injury that kept him sidelined for five months.

The winger has scored some memorable goals, including a brace in the 4-3 comeback win against West Ham United in March 2024. He was even the club’s top scorer in the early months of the 2024-25 season but still couldn’t nail down a regular spot.
But that all changed at the beginning of March. A three-match ban for Gordon for his red card in the 2-1 FA Cup fifth round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion handed Barnes a golden opportunity - and he grasped it with both hands.
Starting all 13 of the Magpies’ remaining matches, Barnes scored four goals and registered three assists, giving him a season total of nine goals and five assists.
Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes linked with Aston Villa
Mail Online reported last month that Aston Villa are interested in Barnes, whereas Newcastle are admirers of midfielder Jacob Ramsey. That gave rise to a potential swap deal, which, in turn, would help both clubs’ financial situation under Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
However, head coach Eddie Howe does not want to lose Barnes and it seems the player has no thoughts of leaving. In a social media post earlier this week, Barnes referenced looking ahead to next season.
He wrote on Instagram: “A week to reflect on a historic season for this amazing club and one that’s going to always stick in the memory! Time for a chill before we do it all again next year 🖤🤍 @nufc”
What Eddie Howe has said about Harvey Barnes
Even when some questioned if Barnes would ever truly succeed at St James’ Park, Howe and his coaches always publicly stuck by his player.
“We knew when we signed Harvey Barnes we were signing a top player,” Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall said earlier this year. “His history and record at Leicester suggested that.
“He's had to be really patient with the form Anthony has been in, but since he's come into the team he's delivered some excellent team and individual performances. I'm really, really delighted for Harvey because he's such a great lad.”
