Further reports are claiming that AC Milan are lining up a move for Luka Modric, who will soon leave Real Madrid after over a decade there.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes how once upon a time there was the great Milan, the one that collected Ballon d’Ors continuously. Today the scenario has changed: in Europe there are those who spend and spend much more than a top Italian club can afford.
However, the desire to make the fans dream with a big name seems to tease both Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri. In the discussions on the Milan of the future, the idea of signing Modric has been discussed.
Reflections underway
The Croatian midfielder ended his experience in Spain after 13 years of triumphs. Now he must choose his new adventure, which is also preparatory to the great goal of 2026: the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Modric therefore wants a top-level team and league to best prepare for his last act with his national team. Milan know this and for this reason internally the directors are reflecting on whether or not to make an attempt, weighing up the pros and cons.

Pros: Modric is not looking for a particularly rich contract and would add class, personality and experience to the team. Cons: on September 9th he will turn 40 and in the last year at Real Madrid he played less than half of the games as a starter.
It is clear that he is no longer the player who won the Ballon d’Or in 2018. His final total in 2024-25, however, speaks of 57 appearances, four goals and nine assists. In short, he may be getting on in years, but his physical condition has allowed him to be practically always capable and enlisted.
In addition, Real Madrid played in six competitions in the season just ended, while the Rossoneri will only be involved on three fronts in 2025-26. Modric, therefore, could manage his battery with less difficulty between Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.
Dreams and obstacles
If the name of the Croatian fascinates the world of Rossoneri, it should not be forgotten that Milan has been the dream of the midfielder since he was a child. Modric has never hidden the fact that he grew up with a red and black heart.
After all, he grew up with one of his idols being Zvonimir Boban, who created wonders on the pitch of San Siro. In short, Milan are not a team like all the others for him and a call from the Rossoneri would certainly tempt him at least.
As mentioned, the Croatian will not demand a huge salary. There are, however, some objective difficulties. The first is obvious: Milan will not play in European competitions in the 2025-26 season having finished eighth.

If on a physical level this could even be an advantage for Modric, who would save energy also in view of the World Cup, on an ambitious level it is certainly a step backwards for a midfielder who is used to hearing the Champions League anthem every other week and even lifting the trophy.
The second is represented by the intense competition. Even though Modric is right on the threshold of 40 years of age, his name is a strong attraction for several clubs around Europe who see what he can bring.
Italian destiny?
This is not the first time, however, that Modric’s name has been linked to a Serie A club. In the summer of 2018 there were rumours about him potentially joining the blue side of the city.
After he had won the Champions League with Real Madrid and then enchanted at the World Cup in Russia, dragging his national team to the final (then lost 4-2 against France) for the first time in its history, Inter tried to snatch him from Real.
It was an attempt that was in vain in the end, despite the promises of an intermediary. This time the scenario is a little different: Modric is a free agent, at the end of his career and could choose with his heart. A red and black heart.
