Barcelona have broken their silence on Marcus Rashford ahead of a potential transfer.

Rashford was shown the Old Trafford exit door by Ruben Amorim in January as he headed to Aston Villa in a bid to revive his career. Despite impressing at Villa Park, the £40million buy option in his loan deal looks unlikely to be triggered.

The 27-year-old has his sights set on playing for a Champions League club, with Barcelona appearing to be his preferred destination. After Villa lost at Old Trafford on the final day of the season. Unai Emery doesn't have Champions League football to offer Rashford.

Speculation about him moving to Barcelona continues to circulate, and their sporting director, Deco, addressed these rumours in a recent interview with BBC Sport.

Deco assured that Barcelona will "not sell our best players". He revealed that Barcelona are looking to make "two, three or four signings", without having to go on a spending spree, thanks to a strong foundation.

When questioned about whether Barcelona's plans included potentially signing Rashford, or Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, he responded: "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come.

"Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players."

Deco continued: "When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good.

"We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come."

He also downplayed suggestions that the club is facing financial difficulties, but acknowledged that they must be strategic in the transfer market. As a result, Barcelona may view Marcus Rashford as a shrewd signing, given his modest £40m price tag this summer for a player who is worth much more when he's at his best.
