Manchester United are interested in Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, who could bring a much-needed work ethic and discipline to the team, according to his boss Thomas Frank.

French-born star Mbeumo joined Brentford in 2019 for a then-record fee of £5.8million and quickly made an impact, scoring 16 goals in his debut season as the Bees narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing in the Championship play-off final to Fulham.

However, Brentford achieved redemption the following year via the play-offs, with Mbeumo playing a key role in their success. He quickly transitioned from a wing-back position to become a talismanic winger in the top-flight.

Following the departure of striker Ivan Toney ahead of the 2024/25 season, Mbeumo stepped up to fill the void, scoring 20 Premier League goals and attracting attention from several clubs as the summer transfer window approaches.

It has been reported by The Athletic that Amorim's side are the frontrunners to sign Mbeumo, and if they do, Frank has suggested that they will be gaining a player with an impressive work rate and commitment.

Brentford's Mbeumo has set his sights on a summer move to Old Trafford, with the 25-year-old forward also drawing interest from Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham.

It is expected that negotiations will soon begin between the two parties, and the goalscoring prowess and top-flight experience of Mbeumo could prove vital to a Red Devils squad in need of improvement.

Reflecting on Mbeumo's impact, Brentford manager Frank previously highlighted his importance, especially during a period when the player was out with an ankle injury in 2023, reports the Mirror.

"[Mbeumo] must be number two after Ivan [Toney] in terms of goals and assists, which is key," said Frank in 2023. "His work rate for the team is incredible.

"You don't see many wingers who work so hard and mean so much. He's become the key man saying, 'Give me the ball, I'll take this.' Who will that man be now? We'll find out in the next weeks."

Mbeumo scored 20 league goals for Brentford this season

The Danish coach has been vocal about Mbeumo's talents, particularly after a standout performance the previous year when Brentford were newcomers to the Premier League.

Following a hat-trick by Mbeumo in a 4-1 FA Cup victory at Port Vale, Frank expressed his admiration, and heavily priased the wide player.

"It's brilliant, I must say," said Frank. "He's been brilliant for us this year in the Premier League. He came back from a minor injury. We knew that he wanted to play ready for Tuesday. And three quality finishes, very composed. We know that these FA Cup games are very difficult.

"Second half we started bad, they played a tiny bit more direct. They put us a little bit under pressure, but in the end we, and especially Bryan Mbeumo, showed our quality."
