Nuno Espirito Santo goes from hero to villain as Wolves could now be denied two targets

Premier League clubs have wasted no time exploring the summer transfer window, with Wolves needing to conduct a big summer of activity.

As expected, the talk around Wolves is more to do with outgoings rather than incomings as Vitor Pereira prepares to get his squad in order for his first full season at Molineux.

Matheus Cunha has joined Manchester United, and Rayan Ait-Nouri is close to joining Manchester City, two transfers that will see a significant number of goals leave the Wolves squad.

The Old Gold will need to replenish in the goal department and are starting to do so, as several targets have already been sounded out.

There is, however, a pressing issue, as other clubs share the same targets, signalling an early transfer race to secure those at the top of the list.

Nuno Espirito Santo could have a say in Wolves’ transfer window

Wolves have found great success in the South American market in recent transfer windows and hope to uncover even more treasure.

Yuri Alberto has been linked to Wolves, having worked with Pereira at Corinthians, but he’s not the only Brazilian striker on the Old Gold’s radar.

During the winter market, Wolves’ interest in Botafogo striker Igor Jesus was listed, and now, the 24-year-old looks to be on his way to the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Jesus is on course to sign for Nottingham Forest, joining Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground.

As a result of Nuno’s early transfer activity, Wolves could miss out on another target, as in reaction to losing three players to Forest, Botafogo are pushing to sign Argentine playmaker Alvaro Montoro.

Wolves have shown interest in Montoro, but the player appears to be on his way to Brazil, as journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported on X.

Nuno’s pursuit of Jesus might have bolstered Botafogo’s push to agree a deal with Montoro, subsequently moving Wolves further away from two targets.

Wolves transfer activity paused by possible exits

Though we are only two days into the first spell of the summer transfer window, Premier League clubs aren’t wasting any time getting work done.

Such has resulted in Wolves being on course to lose two key players early on, which, despite being deflating, could work to Matt Hobbs’ benefit.

Hobbs knows a top-quality Cunha replacement is needed, as is cover for Ait-Nouri and possibly Nelson Semedo, who is still undecided on his future.

For now, the Old Gold will sit back and work out what is needed and which targets fit the bill on a budget.

That being said, there’s a risk with waiting for the right time to enter the market, as seen by Forest’s activity at Botafogo, which has caused a detrimental domino effect on two Wolves targets.

The summer will be decisive for the Old Gold, who have the chance to kick on under Pereira after a series of underwhelming seasons.
