Manchester United are continuing to push with their attacking rebuild this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo still firmly on their radar.
The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, with his release clause set to be paid in three £20.85 million instalments over two and a half years.
However, they aren’t stopping there and having missed out on signing Liam Delap are now focusing on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
The talented attacker has had a phenomenal season for Brentford, so it’s no surprise that sides like United and Newcastle are prioritising the star this summer.
It’s also emerged that Mbeumo is keen for a move to Old Trafford, a stance which hasn’t gone down well with the Brentford management.
Whilst contact hasn’t yet been made between the two clubs, The Bees have put a price tag of £60 million on their star, with no release clause in his contract.
This fee has reportedly not dissuaded Newcastle or Manchester United from pursuing him, however his wage demands may have just given United the edge.
The Chronical Live has reported that Mbeumo is looking for a wage packet of £200,000 per week, matching that of Matheus Cunha.
With Newcastle’s top earners Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton all earning £150,000 per week, agreeing to Mbeumo’s demands would open the door for other wages at the club to rise.
As such, The Magpies appear to be edging away, with Eddie Howe commenting: “If he’s already established, I think the wages and the financial package becomes difficult for us, speaking honestly, so as much as we would want it.”
However, when looking at United’s top earners of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro earning north of £300,000 per week, The Red Devils look to find Mbeumo’s demands much more agreeable.
