Liverpool and Luis Diaz Reportedly Continue Work On Contract Extension

Luis Diaz was [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/)’s second top scorer in the Premier League last season, at times the club’s most effective attacker playing in a front line that also had an in-form Mohamed Salah in it, and showed a positional flexibility that saw manager Arne Slot regularly utilize him to plug the gap at striker.

He was by any measure one of the club’s best and most important players in a season that saw the Reds win the Premier League, their 20th domestic league title. Despite that, with the season ending there has been a flurry of rumours linking him with Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League’s Al-Nassr.

Those rumours may be driving a narrative of a potential departure that may not reflect the reality, though, as Colombian journalist [Pipe Sierra](https://x.com/PSierraR/status/1929678700834173287) says Diaz isn’t looking to leave Liverpool this summer and that the club and player are in fact currently working on a new long-term contract for the forward.

There were rumours over the final month of the season a new contract was planned for Diaz, suggesting Liverpool felt the 28-year-old’s future was with the club, and Sierra—one of the first to report on his move to Liverpool from Porto—would appear to offer confirmation from Diaz’ side of things.

If a new deal can’t be reached and a club meet Diaz’ £70M valuation anything is possible, but with plenty of squad overturn likely this summer—with potential departures for Darwin Nuñez and Diogo Jota—it could be reckless to offload such an effective player, one clearly valued by the manager.
