Arsenal will have six out-of-contract players next summer as Andrea Berta plots masterplan

It promises to be a very interesting summer at Arsenal as they attempt to get their hands on silverware. Trophies have unfortunately alluded the Gunners since their FA Cup triumph in 2020 and Mikel Arteta needs to get his team over the line after so many near misses.

Arsenal's squad needs bolstering ahead of the 2025/26 season, with new sporting director Andrea Berta the man in charge of giving Arteta the players he requires. In terms of incomings, Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko could be the club's first two summer arrivals.

As well as adding new players to the squad, Arsenal have decisions to make over their current stars as some will soon be entering the final 12 months of their contracts. So who are the players set to enter the final year of their deals come July 1? football.london takes a look below:

Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard has produced some big moments for Arsenal ever since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion. That will undoubtedly continue to be the case next season due to what he offers in the final third.

Trossard's current contract expires in the summer of 2026, with Arsenal holding a one-year extension clause to add another 12 months to his deal if they so wish. The Gunners will need to decide if they either activate that extra year or extend his current terms by a few more years.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

This summer could potentially see Oleksandr Zinchenko bid farewell to the Emirates Stadium. Joining from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, the 28-year-old has dropped down the pecking order over the past year due to the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly.

During the 2024/25 campaign, Zinchenko made 23 appearances in all competitions, with eight of those starts for the Gunners. As Arsenal plan for the years ahead, it probably is the right time for the Ukrainian, who has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, to move on to pastures new.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

The 2024/25 season was truly one to forget for Takehiro Tomiyasu as injury limited him to just a solitary appearance for Arteta's men. Injuring his right knee in pre-season and making his comeback off the bench against Southampton in October, the defender's six-minute cameo was to be his final game in the campaign due to further issues with his knee before eventually going under the knife.

Tomiyasu is not expected to return to action until the end of the year and he will be doing all he can behind the scenes to ensure he is back on the pitch as soon as possible. The Japanese ace penned a contract until 2026 back in March 2024, with the Gunners having an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Arsenal will need to decide if they take up that option at some point over the coming months.

Myles Lewis-Skelly

Whereas Tomiyasu will not look back at the 2024/25 campaign too fondly, that will certainly not be the case for Lewis-Skelly. The academy graduate enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season in the capital and it resulted in him scoring on his England debut in March.

Making 42 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, Lewis-Skelly is very much a first-team regular and next season could be very special if he continues to progress at his current rate. His current deal, which he penned in October 2023, runs out next summer but Arsenal will be looking to tie him down to a long-term contract sooner rather than later.

Albert Sambi Lokonga

The summer of 2025 could spell the end of Albert Sambi Lokonga's Arsenal career. Joining from Anderlecht in 2021, it just hasn't quite happened for the Belgian at the Emirates Stadium.

Lokonga has spent time on loan with Crystal Palace, Luton Town and Sevilla over the past three campaigns but he is now at the point where he needs to settle down at a club rather than heading elsewhere season after season. Amid the transfer moves Berta will make for Arteta, a permanent exit for Lokonga needs to be on his to-do list.

Karl Hein

It will be interesting to see what happens in regards to a second-choice goalkeeper next season following the expiration of Neto's loan deal from Bournemouth. Karl Hein will return to Arsenal after his season on loan with Spanish side Real Valladolid and he could possibly push to be David Raya's deputy.

Hein's current Arsenal deal expires in 2026 and the club have a decision to make over what comes next for the Estonian No.1.
