West Ham Get Second Bite of The Cherry as Sancho Deal Ditched

**West Ham** could be offered a second bite of the cherry in their attempts to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.

As [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) exclusively revealed earlier today, Sancho was offered to the Hammers by Manchester United for an “affordable sum.” The transfer only failed to materialise because the on-loan Chelsea wideman was considered the wrong type of player by Irons manager Graham Potter.

However, C&H has also learned that Man United gave West Ham a 48-hour window in which to declare their interest, with Chelsea dithering over whether to take up their £25m option.

West Ham were in the process of completing their due diligence on Sancho when the deadline expired, with Potter having the final veto.

Since then, the West Londoners have decided against taking up the option and have instead sent a £5m compensation payment to Old Trafford to escape triggering the obligation to buy. Chelsea are now weighing up a bid for Reading-born Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who was previously on the books at Stamford Bridge as a boy.

Whether Graham Potter will now take the chance to sign Sancho, now that he’s no longer under pressure to make a snap decision, remains unknown. But C&H has been informed that tentative enquiries have been made through Kyle Macaulay’s Chelsea contacts to get insight into the player’s character during his time at the Bridge.

Any potential deal between West Ham and Manchester United is said to be encouragingly-structured, affordable, and not predicated on the Hammers selling players first.
