Liverpool faces transfer decisions on 9 more players as Richard Hughes set for busy summer

Liverpool is hoping to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, and Jeremie Frimpong, his teammate last season, has already been snapped up. But there are plenty more decisions coming.

In the first team roster, there is likely to be interest in the likes of Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa and Kostas Tsimikas, to name just three. Luis Diaz continues to be linked with an exit, meanwhile, plus Darwin Nunez has drawn interest from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, and there could be decisions to make for other senior stars too.

There are nine more decisions on top of that, though, that involve more fringe or up-and-coming players, some of whom were out on loan last season.

Jayden Danns, who was on loan at Sunderland in the second half of the season but didn't play because of a back injury, might well go out somewhere again. A return to the North East side, now in the Premier League, has been mooted.

James McConnell, meanwhile, is likely to be sent out on loan as the best route for him to develop. He was praised by Arne Slot during the season, but the Reds boss ultimately only used him four times for a total of 237 minutes.

Fellow youngsters — including but not limited to — Owen Beck, Lewis Koumas, Kaide Gordon, Calvin Ramsay, Luke Chambers and Luca Stephenson also have decisions to make. None look particularly close to breaking into the first team at Anfield as things stand.

And then there is Tyler Morton, who is more senior than any of them, but saw his chances limited. It will be best for his career if he finds a permanent move elsewhere and there should be no shortage of interest.

Vitezslav Jaros, who will be behind Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili in the pecking order, is keen to gain more senior experience, according to The Athletic, and so he could head out as well.

While Liverpool is set to spend big — on Wirtz, even without the other signings that could arrive — that will be offset by a number of sales. There could be plenty who end up moving on.

"I think we can find one or two extra weapons this team doesn’t have," Slot said when he was asked about transfers heading into the summer. "Maybe, maybe, by using the transfer market.

"That is what we are trying to achieve. That will make us only stronger. That is what we need because we saw [Manchester] City spending £200 million ($270 million) in the [January] transfer window.

"All of them will. Apart from the transfer window, we can also improve certain aspects ourselves."

As discussions for Wirtz continue, there are plenty more moving parts this summer that are yet to properly take shape. Sporting director Richard Hughes will be kept busy.
