“They want €20-25m” – Aston Villa said to want surprisingly low fee, may be over-optimism

According to a claim in the Turkish media, Aston Villa could let Emiliano Martinez leave for as little as €20m.

The Argentina international could leave the Premier League side this summer and has been linked with Galatasaray in recent weeks.

Futbol Arena cover Galatasaray’s pursuit for a new No.1, with veteran Fernando Muslera’s recently saying his goodbyes. The Uruguayan is moving back home country due to family reasons, and in recent weeks the Aston Villa player has emerged as a possible candidate to replace him.

Turkish journalist Ali Naci Kucuk has had say on the situation with Martinez and he claims Aston Villa are looking for €20-25m.

“There are very high-level offers for Emiliano Martinez. They want a fee in the region of €20m to €25m,” said the journalist.

However, this sounds optimistic given recent reports in the UK press which said Villa would be looking for offers in the region of £40m. The Turkish media often think players can be signed from Premier League clubs cheaper than the reality later tells them.

Tuesday’s edition of Argentine newspaper Clarin reports the goalkeeper is keen on a change of scenery this summer and wants a ‘leap forward’ in his career. A move to Turkey probably doesn’t provide that.

Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin and Liverpool’s Alisson are also reported targets for Galatasaray, with the Ukrainian the likeliest to arrive in Istanbul.

Martinez made 53 appearances for Aston Villa this season and is contracted to them until June 2029.
