‘Just about feasible’: Financial expert reveals how much Leeds United can really spend this summer

Leeds United have been predicted to spend a lot of money to tighten their grip on remaining in the Premier League.

It’s looking likely that ambition will be shown by Paraag Marathe and the 49ers, but time will tell.

Fans might be wary of trusting the words of their owner, who has previously said Leeds will be ‘aggressive’ in windows to come.

The claim this summer is that Leeds will spend £150m in what is looking like a record-breaking summer for spending by all accounts.

However, Marathe might have once again gone against his vow as a revelation has come to the surface at Leeds.

With questions being raised over whether the Whites can actually fulfil this promise, Marathe will want to back his corner.

The 49ers haven’t provided that ruthlessness that fans have been so desperate for, and if transfers don’t get sorted quickly, toxicity will soon arise.

There have been plenty of rumours circulating with the Whites in for Igor Paixao who has excited Leeds fans.

Signing the Brazilian winger would show that ambition, but with a £34m price tag suggested, it might not fit in with what the Whites are actually spending, according to Football Finance Expert Kieran Maguire.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Maguire assessed Leeds’ window and the funds that have actually been given, with the figure being just about ‘feasible’.

“They will have to box clever in terms of recruitment,” Maguire said.

“Spending £100m is just about feasible.”

Leeds might have to rely on loans after priority signings

With £100m just about getting over the line, this might raise concerns for fans.

The relegated sides spent around £100m, and their fate was sealed very quickly in the Premier League season.

Leeds won’t want to follow the same destiny, and instead should aim higher.

If £100m is all that’s likely, Leeds can potentially just about complete four priority signings, but then the loan market will have to come up clutch for Daniel Farke.

This isn’t an ideal circumstance, but if Farke can land his targets and then look for some Premier League-proven loan deals, he might just be okay.
