The incessant coverage of the relationship between former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick (now with the University of North Carolina) and his girlfriend Jordon Hudson has sparked a war of words between two well-known sports media figures.
Pablo Torre has been reporting on the Belichick-Hudson relationship on his “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, chronicling how the two met, concerns over Hudson’s involvement in Belichick’s business affairs and their 49-year age gap.
While discussing the movie “Heaven Can Wait” on a May 27 episode of his podcast “The Rewatchables,” Bill Simmons took a shot at Torre, relating Torre’s media appearances about the Belichick-Hudson relationship to the movie’s concept.
“Pablo Torre would have done a long podcast about Leo Farnsworth trying to practice with the team and then would have done a media tour afterwards,” Simmons told his podcast co-hosts Chris Ryan and Van Lathan. “I’ve never seen anyone dine on a stupider story for a week and a half while pretending you’re a journalist. What the (expletive) was that? Seriously. Belichick’s dating a girl, let me do nine shows about it. Sit the (expletive) down... You don’t need to do a media tour about a (expletive) podcast...maybe do two shows.”
Torre caught wind of the comments and issued a challenge to Simmons, stating he wanted to speak to him.
“Dear @BillSimmons: Since you have such a strong public opinion about my work... I happen to have a few questions for you, specifically,” Torre said on X (formerly known as Twitter), replying to an Awful Announcing post that focused on Simmons’ comments about him. “Unless you’re afraid of @pablofindsout and someone just ‘pretending to be a journalist,’ of course. Thanks, Pablo”
Simmons had not replied to the post at the time of this report.
