Liverpool confirms second summer exit as Caoimhin Kelleher completes Premier League transfer

Liverpool has confirmed the transfer of Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool to Brentford for a fee of of up to £18million ($24M).

The Reds' long-standing backup goalkeeper has been outspoken on his desire to play regularly elsewhere, and Brentford moved quickly to secure his services amid interest from elsewhere.

The Irishman, who completed a medical on Monday, had been linked with the likes of West Ham United, Leeds United, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

The Bees have paid an initial fee of £12.M ($17M) for the player, with a further £5.5M ($7.5M) in possible add-ons.

The news comes after Brentford confirmed the exit of Mark Flekken earlier in the day. The Dutch stopper, who has been Brentford's no.1 for the past two years has signed for Bayer Leverkusen.

The goalkeeper is the second summer departure following Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid.

"Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Caoimhin for his contribution to the club’s recent success and wishes him the best of luck for the future," Liverpool said in a statement as the move was announced.

Speaking to Brentford's website as the news was announced, Kelleher explained why he chose to sign for the London club: "I’m buzzing, I’m really happy to be here," said the 26-year-old.

"I don’t think it was very difficult for me to leave \[Liverpool\]. I felt for my own career that the time was right for me to go, to be a no.1 and to play every week.

"I heard of some interest a number of weeks ago. Once I knew Brentford was in for me, it was definitely one I was really excited about and wanted to do as quickly as possible.

“When I come back for pre-season, all focus will be on what I want to do next year; to work on certain goals and what I need to improve on, and to have a really good season for Brentford."
