Liverpool FC have announced the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford.
The transfer fee received is believed to be an initial £12.5 million fee and £5.5 million in performance-related add-ons.
Key clauses reportedly include £2 million for 20+ Premier League starts in 2025–26 and £1.5 million should the Bees qualify for European competition.
It marks the end of the Irish international’s nine-year tenure at Anfield.
The 26-year-old has made 67 appearances for Liverpool since his 2019 debut but now seeks regular first-team football after years as Alisson Becker’s deputy.
A club statement reads:
“Caoimhin Kelleher has today completed a permanent transfer to Brentford.”
“The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper finalised his move to the Premier League club, bringing his 10-year Liverpool career to an end.”
“The 26-year-old joined the Academy from Ringmahon Rangers in his home city of Cork in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 67 senior appearances for the Reds, winning seven trophies.”
“Kelleher departs Anfield having lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Emirates FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the UEFA Super Cup.”
“He is a record-holder, too, having won four penalty shootouts as a Liverpool player – the most of any ’keeper in the club’s history.”
Ringmahon Rangers, the 26-year-old’s youth side, are set to receive around £2.5 million immediately from Kelleher’s transfer, with the total potentially rising to £3.6 million if all performance-related bonuses are triggered during his time at Brentford.
This is due to a 20% sell-on clause negotiated in his 2015 transfer to Liverpool’s academy.
Kelleher’s integration into Brentford’s squad will be eased by familiar faces, including compatriot Nathan Collins and ex-Liverpool teammates Sepp Van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho.
