Report: Newcastle chiefs now ‘confident’ of one thing happening after Bryan Mbeumo blow

Newcastle United are not enjoying the fast start to the summer transfer window that they were hoping for.

Eddie Howe stressed that Newcastle United needed to move quickly, but all they have done so far is miss out on key target after key target.

Real Madrid signed Dean Huijsen ahead of Newcastle and a host of other clubs.

After that, Matheus Cunha chose to join Manchester United. The Magpies spoke to Cunha about a move to St James’ Park, but Old Trafford was his preference.

Then Liam Delap snubbed Newcastle’s interest, with a move to Chelsea on the horizon for the 22-year-old.

Now there is more disappointment, with Bryan Mbeumo wanting to join Manchester United.

That is the biggest blow of them all, with Geordie Boot Boys told that Newcastle felt Brentford’s asking price for Mbeumo was too high.

Newcastle United’s message after Bryan Mbeumo decision

While the transfer window has only officially been open for a few days, multiple key targets are passing the Magpies by.

There is some unrest within the fanbase, but that feeling has not made its way into the Newcastle United boardroom.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are eager to make the right decisions rather than quick decisions, and they are ‘confident’ that the club will enjoy a successful transfer window.

The Telegraph add that there is calmness behind the scenes at St James’ Park, with all decision-makers pulling in the same direction.

One thing Newcastle United will absolutely not do this summer

The disappointment from Newcastle United fans is understandable, particularly when it comes to Mbeumo. He seemed like the perfect player to join Eddie Howe’s squad, yet he looks destined to join Manchester United.

But there is a caveat with every deal that Newcastle have missed out on so far. Huijsen was always going to pick Real Madrid if they were an option. Cunha is going to earn £200,000-a-week at Man United, which would not have been on offer at Newcastle. Delap wants to be a regular starter, which Newcastle could not promise. Mbeumo’s asking price was deemed too much by the Magpies.

Eventually, something will have to give in the transfer market, but the one thing Newcastle United will not do is panic. That is not something they have ever done since the change of ownership.

Even in the aftermath of the Marc Guehi debacle last summer, there were no desperate attempts just to get any central defender in.

Newcastle will get the right players for their project, and those deals will represent the value they are looking for.

As frustrating as it is, supporters must put their faith in the Newcastle United officials who have got so many transfers right in recent years.
