Birmingham City will be able to lure some new signings to the Midlands this summer
Birmingham City stormed to the League One title this past season and smashed the record points tally. The Blues ended up getting promoted along with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic. They were relegated to the third tier 12 months ago but have returned at the first time of asking.
Chris Davies’ side will now be eager to carry their momentum over to the next campaign. The Midlands outfit have got into the habit of winning matches. That should take them a long way as they look to stamp their mark on the Championship.
Birmingham City urged to sign Aston Villa winger Louie Barry
Pundit Lee Hendrie believes he would be ideal for the Blues and has delivered his verdict, as per a report by Football League World: “I think signing Louie Barry would be a great deal for Birmingham City. I've heard a lot of reports and a lot of whispers about Louie Barry going to Birmingham City, so it wouldn't surprise me. He did brilliant things at Stockport, got injured at Hull City and that's what hampered him really going and kicking on and proving that he's well worthy of playing in the Championship.
“I think he is well worthy. They've got a really good manager at Birmingham who plays a nice style of football that would suit Barry’s game. He's versatile, he can play through the middle, he can play out wide, which would suit Birmingham, as they have got players that can chop and change throughout their front line. I think Louie Barry would be a great addition for Birmingham City, particularly going into the Championship with new, fresh ideas.”
Would Aston Villa’s Louie Barry suit Birmingham City?
Barry would give Birmingham more competition and depth going forward if they were able to land him. He has been on the books at Aston Villa since 2020. Prior to his move to Villa Park, he had spells at both West Brom and Barcelona.
The attacker was loaned out to Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City to get some experience under his belt. He then linked up with Stockport County in 2023 and was a hit during his two spells at Edgeley Park in the past. The ex-England youth international scored 25 goals in 47 games for the Hatters to earn a temporary switch to Hull City in January.
However, his time with the Tigers didn’t go to plan in the end. He was limited to just four appearances for the East Yorkshire club due to injury. Therefore, it would be a bit of risk if the Blues were to bring him in. He hasn’t played much football at their level and he has had his issues in the treatment room over recent times and needs to get back to full fitness.
