Wolves boss makes 'fire and hunger' point when discussing summer targets

The head coach is gearing up for an important few months at Molineux with a significant squad overhaul on the cards.

Pablo Sarabia’s exit has already been confirmed, while Matheus Cunha has joined Manchester United for £62.5million.

Left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is a serious target for Manchester City and the future of skipper Nelson Semedo still undecided.

Pereira wants those players who depart to be replaced with those of the same quality and says the club will focus on the mentality of signings, almost as much as they do their skills on the pitch.

"I need to help the club to find the right players,” he said.

"I'll tell you what we need, we need players with the personality, the character to come to Wolverhampton and look at it as a big, big opportunity.

"Playing in the Premier League, living in a simple city, but a good city.

"With fire, with hunger to help the club next season.

"This is the profile. Not only look for the technical profile, but for the mental profile.”

Top scorer Cunha joined United after they agreed to pay a release clause, written in the contract he signed last January, over the course of the next two seasons.

Pereira is eager for Semedo to stay but the Portugal international is still undecided over his future.

The offer of a new four-year contract at Molineux remains on the table for the 30-year-old, who has already recorded a farewell message should he choose to depart.

Wolves, meanwhile, are braced for an approach from City for Ait-Nouri after the 23-year-old was identified as a top target for Pep Guardiola's team, who are aiming to complete a deal before the Club World Cup begins later this month.

Pereira, speaking last month, admitted it will be easier for Wolves to firm up their summer plans once they know which players are staying.

"When you have a clear picture of the squad and the players that will leave, we know the targets we must go for," he said.

"We are doing our work selecting targets, the profile of players that can play our game.

"We go on our holidays but for me it's not a holiday because I need to work, I need to help the team.”
