Where will Viktor Gyokeres be playing his football next season? That is a big question on many lips now the summer transfer window is open ahead of the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
Gyokeres has been a long-term target for Arsenal, having been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium since last summer's transfer window.
The Gunners baulked at the €100million (£84.2million) asking price last summer, but Sporting CP's stance has softened this summer, with there being a reported verbal agreement that the Swedish international can leave if a fee of €65million (£54.7million) is offered.
If anything, Gyokeres' stock has risen even further since last summer. He scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists for Sporting in the 2023/24 campaign, but incredibly improved on that in 2024/25, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists.
He is one of a number of strikers in the frame to sign for Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners reportedly opening talks to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a £92.5million deal.
Whether Arsenal would look to sign both Sesko and Gyokeres, given how much it would cost them, remains to be seen, but the Gunners have been given something of a boost in any attempt to bring Gyokeres to the club this summer.
Sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta would initially have had to wait some time to open negotiations with the player, should they have agreed a deal with Sporting.
That is because Gyokeres was due to go on international duty with Sweden after the end of the campaign, with two games this week, then surely on holiday thereafter, following a long season.
However, Gyokeres may be available sooner than that now, after news broke that he had picked up an injury that has ruled him out of Sweden's games with Hungary on June 6 and Algeria on June 10.
Gyokeres is now likely to go on holiday immediately, with Arsenal able to open negotiations with his club, if they are intent on signing him, before he returns to discuss personal terms.
