Lisandro Martinez on Napoli list – Manchester United defender subject of transfer interest

Lisandro Martinez has now endured two injury-stricken seasons at Manchester United.

He’s played 20 times in the Premier League this season and played 11 times in the 2023/24 season. Despite his fitness issues, the Argentine is attracting interest from Italy, according to claims from a regional edition of Corriere dello Sport today.

Corriere dello Sport‘s Campania newspaper, covering the Naples region, has an article covering Napoli’s potential business in the summer window. That’s where Lisandro Martinez gets a mention.

The newspaper states the centre-back is ‘followed’ and ‘liked’ by the Italian champions and they are not too concerned about his recent physical problems. They’re monitoring how the 27-year-old recovers from the serious knee injury that he picked up earlier this year.

Sporting director Giovanni Manna is said to be a fan of Martinez and has added his name to Napoli’s summer shortlist.

Today’s La Repubblica, as relayed by CN24, also report on this. They make it clear the defender is one of Napoli’s options for the upcoming transfer window, with other names also being keenly observed.

There is no indication of how much Manchester United would want for the World Cup, or whether they’d be interested in a sale generally. Napoli didn’t do too badly when signing Scott McTominay last summer so perhaps they think Old Trafford is a good place to shop.
