Unexpected East Team Joins Kevin Durant Trade Buzz: Report

The NBA offseason is right around the corner and one of the top names on the trade market is Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant.

Durant is likely to be on the move this summer after the Suns put together another disappointing season that resulted in them missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Because of this, there have been many reports saying that Phoenix will likely elect to move on from both Durant and Bradley Beal this offseason and rebuild their roster around Devin Booker to try and return as a contender in the Western Conference.

Of course, Durant is arguably the biggest star possibly on the move this summer outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and there should be many teams interested in acquiring the future Hall of Famer.

The Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are just a few of the teams that have been mentioned in trade buzz surrounding Durant but an unexpected Eastern Conference team joined that list on Tuesday.

According to Hoops Wire’s Sam Amico, the Atlanta Hawks are a team to watch as there have been rumors they could get involved in the Durant sweepstakes this summer.

“One league source told Hoops Wire not to be surprised if the Hawks get involved in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. While they have yet to hire a president of basketball operations, team ownership has already inquired internally about Durant, sources said,” Amico wrote.

Of course, the Hawks have been trying to pair another star player next to Trae Young for years now but they have failed to do so which has put Young in trade rumors as well, though they clearly want to build around him.

Because of this, Atlanta may add their names to the Durant sweepstakes and they have some intriguing trade pieces that could entice the Suns in a potential move.

A pairing of Durant and Young, along with Dyson Daniels and possibly Zaccharie Risacher could help the Hawks finally make it out of battling for a Play-In spot and instead be a top team in the East next season.
