Newcastle United great Shaka Hislop has met with Sir Keir Starmer at a Downing Street reception.
Hislop, who is the honorary president of Show Racism the Red Card, was attending the charity's first Hall of Fame event since 2016 in London. The Toon legend, part of the Entertainers' team of the 1990s, helped establish the charity in 1996 after he was subjected to a sickening racist attack by youths, and was awarded the Freedom of Newcastle in 2022 for his work.
On Monday afternoon, he gave a speech at Downing Street as Show Racism the Red Card welcomed Sunderland AFC to its Hall of Fame, as well as Arsenal, Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth. Shaka Hislop said: "As much as we at Show Racism the Red Card have always used football players, their stories and experiences of racism and anti-racism as the foundation of the work we do, none of this would've been possible without the support of football clubs.
