‘Why Not?’: Federico Cheisa’s Liverpool future further in doubt after his latest admission

Liverpool have a big summer ahead of them in terms of incomings and outgoings as they look to build upon their title-winning campaign.

As one of the most active already in the transfer market, the club have issued a statement of intent to the rest of the division and proven that they aren’t resting on their laurels.

Although potentially losing Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, Liverpool could be looking at a refreshed attack next season, with the club hopeful that Florian Wirtz will sign and make the Reds even more of a force to be reckoned with.

A summer of change in attack could be good for some fringe players too as they might get some more minutes, with Italian Federico Chiesa one player who could benefit.

However, the 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away and his most recent comments suggest he could be closer to the exit door at Anfield.

Federico Chiesa hints at possible Juventus return

Despite playing very few games this season, Federico Chiesa is somewhat of a fan favourite on the red half of Merseyside and his song can be heard ringing around Anfield regularly.

However, rumours of Chiesa departing have been circulating for a good chunk of the season and now it looks more likely than ever after he hinted at returning to Juventus.

Speaking with Gazzetta Dello Sport, he was asked about a potential move back to his old club, replying with a comment that could be interpreted in many ways.

“Juventus? I still love the club. Returning there one day? Why not,” he told the newspaper.

“Thiago Motta didn’t want me there. He told me that I was not part of his plans, and should go find a team.”

The European Championship winner set the world alight at the competition in 2021 and was rewarded with a move to the Italian giants Juventus the same summer.

Injuries significantly affected his time in Turin and Liverpool took a gamble on him in January, one that many would argue is yet to pay off.

At just £12.5m, the Reds haven’t lost out on too much, but Arne Slot may hope that Chiesa tries to prove himself ahead of his first full pre-season at the club.

Chiesa could be important to Liverpool next season

As mentioned, Liverpool could lose a lot of attacking options this summer, reducing the competition Chiesa will have to face as he struggled to get into the team this season.

Granted, the Reds are hoping to bring in some reinforcements in this area, but with Wirtz costing more money after Bayer Leverkusen insist they don’t want Harvey Elliott as part of a swap deal, they may not have as much to work with.

The Italian winger showed some promising moments and with a full pre-season under his belt, he could become an important player under Arne Slot next year.

He is certainly adored by Liverpool supporters and many will want him to stick around a little while longer, so it might be time for Chiesa to repay fans for the faith they have put in him.
