As Manchester United’s summer overhaul gains momentum, the club’s leadership group is proving just as vital as the new faces arriving at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim is reportedly eager to reshape the squad with high-intensity, technically gifted profiles, but keeping experienced and committed players is equally important in building a side capable of competing again.

Bruno Fernandes, the team’s captain and emotional heartbeat, has consistently been one of the few figures to lead by example, even during turbulent spells.
With several senior players being linked with exits, his status has been the subject of intense speculation.
Especially with Saudi’s recent lucrative offer to acquire his services.
But Fernandes’ decision to stay, despite immense outside interest, has drawn high praise in Portugal.
Portuguese commentator heaps praise on Bruno Fernandes’ loyalty
As per Maisfutebol, respected Portuguese commentator Bruno Andrade reflected on the midfielder’s character and commitment, drawing parallels to his time at Sporting Lisbon.
“Bruno Fernandes, for those who remember, and I am sure that Sporting fans remember, was one of the few leading players who agreed to stay at Sporting after Alcochete,” Andrade said.
“He could have left like other players.
“In other words, it shows a lot about his personality.
“He didn’t abandon Sporting at its worst moment.
“And he didn’t abandon Manchester United at a very complicated time.”
Those words echo the sentiments of many United supporters, who have long admired Fernandes not just for his goals and assists, but for his attitude and loyalty.
That loyalty has once again been tested this summer – and passed.
Fernandes rejected a massive contract offer from Saudi Pro League champions Al Hilal, who had been prepared to hand him a multi-million-pound deal to tempt him away from Manchester.

The 30-year-old instead made it clear he wants to remain in Europe and continue playing at the highest level.
Thus signalling to Amorim and INEOS that he remains committed to the United project.
While the uncertainty over Manchester United’s direction and leadership prompted concern over player retention, Fernandes’ decision provides much-needed stability and a clear message of intent.
Internally, Amorim views Fernandes as a tactical leader and a crucial dressing room figure.
Someone who can help bridge the transition period as United integrate new signings.
With Al Hilal out of the race and Fernandes publicly reaffirming his commitment, the focus now turns to whether the club can build a squad worthy of the captain’s faith.
