Documents start to be exchanged on €34m Nottingham Forest transfer – Botafogo manager speaks out

The first domino are set to fall in Nottingham Forest’s purchase of three Botafogo players.

Brazilian journalist [Vene Casagrande](https://x.com/venecasagrande/status/1929943713662243084) reports Igor Jesus’ agents have now received all the relevant documentation from Nottingham Forest and a five year contract will soon be signed with the Premier League club.

Igor Jesus will physically move after the Club World Cup, so presumably there’s a get out clause in case he picks up an injury. The cost for the 24-year-old striker, plus Jair Cunha, a 20-year-old defender, and Cuiabano, a 22-year-old left back is put at €34m.

The trio moving to Nottingham Forest is the result of direct negotiations between Evangelos Marinakis and John Textor, with the latter being the majority shareholder at the Brazilian club.

The two became friends last year and reports from Brazil on Monday explained how they’ve been in constant contact and chatting about potential transfer business.

Botafogo manager Renato Paiva has been speaking about the move, and he doesn’t sound too furious, rather accepting that his club is one which needs repeat sales. Of course he couldn’t display much anger even if he were annoyed, given Textor would hardly be thrilled with that.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that there are offers for these players. The club told me that there were offers, but they haven’t confirmed anything to me yet. There are proposals, yes. Three weeks ago there were surveys, questions about them._

_“Alessandro (Brito, director of sports management) and Leonardo (Coelho, director of football) are not here, but they must really enjoy working with me in at least one aspect, because I’m not constantly knocking on the door to ask about players. When they leave, I receive the news normally. That’s the life of a coach._

_“There are only three or four coaches in the world who are not salespeople. All the rest live in realities where they obviously sell talent. Botafogo is no exception to this reality. But given these proposals, I’m not going to go knocking on the door and ask for players, knowing that this could happen at any moment. And also knowing and trusting in the replacement, if there are departures. Botafogo’s scout is very good, he has proven it several times.”_
