This summer promises to be a busy one for football action and activity before the new 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off.
Although there is no men’s international tournament scheduled this summer, the FIFA Club World Cup will be staged in the United States, and Premier League teams will prepare for the new campaign by signing and selling players in the transfer market as well as undertaking their pre-season training programmes and playing friendly matches.
Below is a detailed timeline of key dates leading up to the new campaign and a few that will follow in its first fortnight.
1-10 June – Premier League transfer window is open
The first phase of the summer transfer window opened on Sunday 1 June, enabling Premier League clubs to begin registering new signings and finalising departures. One deal that was announced on the first day was Matheus Cunha's much-anticipated transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Manchester United.
This initial 10-day window, which allows clubs to conduct early transfer activity ahead of the Club World Cup, will close at 23:00 BST on Tuesday 10 June.
15 June – FIFA Club World Cup begins
The new-format FIFA Club World Cup, now featuring 32 teams, will begin in the United States on Sunday 15 June.
Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City will be among the participants.
16 June – Premier League transfer window reopens
Following the brief early window, the second and longer phase of the transfer window opens on Monday 16 June.
18 June – Fixtures released
The full fixture list for the 2024/25 Premier League season, showing dates for all 380 matches, will be published on PremierLeague.com and the Premier League's official app at 09:00 BST on Wednesday 18 June 2025.
While the dates will be subject to change for reasons including live television coverage, the schedule will allow clubs, players, and supporters to begin planning for the campaign ahead and identifying when key matches will be played.
The fixture list will feature Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland for the first time since 2023/24, 2022/23 and 2016/17 respectively, following their promotion from the Championship.

1 July – Premier League clubs resume training
Most Premier League clubs are expected to return to pre-season training during the week beginning 1 July.
This period marks the start of on-pitch preparations.
Clubs involved in the Club World Cup may begin training slightly later depending on their schedule.
26 July – Premier League Summer Series begins
The Premier League Summer Series, a pre-season tournament hosted in the United States, will commence.
Participating clubs include AFC Bournemouth, Everton, Man Utd, and West Ham United.
Matches will take place in cities such as New Jersey, Chicago, and Atlanta, with the tournament concluding on 3 August.
August, date to be confirmed – FA Community Shield
The first competitive match of the domestic season will be played at Wembley Stadium as the reigning Premier League champions Liverpool face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield.
This will be Palace’s first appearance in the annual fixture, marking a significant moment in the club’s history.
15 August – Premier League season begins
The 2025/26 Premier League season will officially begin on Friday 15 August, with an opening match that will be announced after the fixtures are released on 18 June.
The 2024/25 campaign also kicked off on a Friday night, with Man Utd defeating Fulham 1-0 at Old Trafford.
21 August - UEFA Conference League play-off round
Nottingham Forest, one of nine Premier League clubs to qualify for Europe, will return to European competition for the first time in 30 years for the first leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off. The second leg takes place on Thursday 28 August.
28 August - UEFA Champions League group-stage draw
The six Premier League clubs who have qualified for the Champions League - Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle United and UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur - will discover who they will face in the 36-team league phase.
29 August - UEFA Europa League group-stage draw
The two Premier League clubs taking part in the Europa League - Aston Villa and FA Cup winners Palace - will find out which sides they will meet in the 36-team league phase.
1 September - Summer transfer window closes
Clubs will have until Monday 1 September at 19:00 BST - four hours earlier than previous transfer deadlines - to complete their business and finalise their squad changes.
