Liverpool trio set for transfer exits including 'quality' player praised by Arne Slot

Caoimhin Kelleher is the latest player to leave Liverpool this summer as Arne Slot gets his plans in place for next season’s Premier League title defense - and more players are set to follow out the exit door.

The Reds are wasting little time in making moves in the summer transfer window, having already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, while work continues over a deal for Florian Wirtz.

Meanwhile, Kelleher became the second player to leave Anfield on Tuesday, with his exit coming just days after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid was finally confirmed. Three more players look set to leave as well, and there could be even more departures on the way.

According to The Athletic, Tyler Morton, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are all expected to leave as they look for a fresh challenge, having been firmly down the pecking order at Anfield.

Phillips and Williams’ departures will not come as a surprise to Liverpool fans, despite the pair’s heroics in helping the Reds to a third-place finish in the 2020/21 season.

Both players have been out of the first-team picture for some time now, with Williams in particular dropping down to the lower levels of English football for game time over the past year.

The 24-year-old spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with League Two side Morecambe, with the Shrimps finishing bottom of the table as they were relegated from the Football League.

Phillips has made more first-team appearances for Liverpool than his center-back partner since 2021, although he too has had to venture away on loan in order to get regular game time, having spent the last year at Derby County in the Championship.

Morton, meanwhile, did spend the season with Liverpool, but found himself on the periphery of the first-team as he made five senior appearances, despite Slot being full of praise for the midfielder early on in the season.

“He's a quality, quality player, good enough to play everywhere around the league, but is in competition with so many good midfielders over here,” Slot said of Morton back in October.

The 22-year-old has already acknowledged he will likely have to move on from Liverpool in order to further his career, having been linked with the likes of RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Sevilla last year.

While Morton, Phillips and Williams look certain to depart, more players could follow them out of the exit door this summer.

Darwin Nunez looks the likeliest to move on after three years at Anfield in which he hasn’t been able to live up to his lofty price tag. There is also speculation over the future of Luis Diaz, who has been linked with Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League.

Kostas Tsimikas could also move on if a deal for Milos Kerkez is struck, while Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah have also been linked with transfers.
