Meet 3-time NBA champ Danny Green at this Calgary finals watch party

Three-time NBA Champion Danny Green says he’s not a betting man, but if he were, his money would be on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the NBA Finals.

Green says the Thunder share something in common with the three franchises where he won championship rings – the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs – defence.

“Defence wins championships, and the reason why they say and preach it, as much as we want to see offence and see threes, the teams that are the better defensive teams are usually the ones that are the last team standing,” Green told CTV News.

Green visits Calgary this week for NBA House, an interactive event where fans can meet him and Metta World Peace, have their photo taken with the Larry O’Brien Trophy and watch the first two games of the NBA Finals.

Green has run basketball camps in several Canadian cities, where he got a sense of the nationwide support for the Raptors’ 2019 NBA Championship.

“Every game we felt the energy from all over,” Green said.

“I was able to experience the whole country and see how much they were behind us. It was an unbelievable support system there and, I’m not going to lie to you, I miss it a ton.”

NBA House will take over The Rooftop YYC for viewing parties during Game 1 on Thursday and Game 2 on Sunday. The event runs from June 5 to 8. More information can be found on the NBA House website.
