The New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom Thibodeau, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
The Knicks lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
A 67-year-old native of New Britain, CT, Thibodeau had just completed his fifth season with the Knicks. After back-to-back seasons that ended in the conference semis, the team finally broke through this season with a trip to the conference finals for the first time since 2000. The team made a pair of significant trades last offseason with the acquisition of Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets and the move of Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns.
Thibodeau finishes his Knicks career with a 226-174 record (.565). He was the NBA's Coach of the Year in 2021.
After an extensive coaching career that saw stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Knicks, Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics, Thibodeau received his first head coaching job in 2010 with the Chicago Bulls and was named Coach of the Year in 2011. Fired after the 2015 season, Thibodeau took over the reins of the Minnesota Timberwolves where he would spend three seasons.
For his career, Thibodeau has a mark of 578-420 (.579) in 13 seasons.
