Manchester United’s striker search under Ruben Amorim continues to take unexpected turns ahead of the summer transfer window.
After the collapse of a deal for long-term target Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea instead, the club have been forced to reassess their shortlist and prioritise alternative options up front.
Delap’s snub triggered a flurry of discussions at Carrington, with United keen to ensure that Amorim’s full first season as manager isn’t hampered by a lack of firepower.

While Matheus Cunha is the first major signing through the door in a £62.5 million move from Wolves, United’s intention has always been to bring in a second forward.
Ideally one with Premier League experience.
That’s where Jean-Philippe Mateta entered the picture.
The Crystal Palace striker, who impressed with a brace at Old Trafford this season and played a crucial role in Palace’s FA Cup-winning campaign, has long been admired by key figures at United.
His physical profile, finishing ability, and Premier League pedigree has made him an attractive option for Amorim.
However, Nathan Salt’s report for the Daily Mail brings a fresh twist.
Jean-Philippe Mateta to stay at Crystal Palace
Despite being on United’s radar for some time, Mateta is now leaning towards staying at Crystal Palace.
The forward is reportedly excited by the opportunity to help the Eagles in their first-ever European campaign, following their impressive finish under Oliver Glasner.
This latest development means United may need to once again pivot in their striker search.

Randal Kolo Muani is also still under consideration, albeit with complications surrounding his price tag and PSG’s stance.
While Amorim remains determined to add another forward, Mateta’s decision to stay put could now shift focus onto alternative profiles or potential loan options.
Either way, United’s striker overhaul is far from finished.
