Over recent days, it’s emerged that Bruno Fernandes has rejected a mega-money move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
The Saudi club offered United £100 million for the transfer, whilst offering United’s captain a three-year, £700,000 per week contract.
However, Fernandes has opted for a stay at Old Trafford, now opening up about his decision.
When discussing the topic during Portugal’s pre-match press conference for their UEFA Nations League game with Germany, Fernandes explained Ruben Amorim was a major factor to staying at the club.
The United captain commented: “There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me.”
He continued: “I spoke to coach Amorim. He asked me not to go. Manchester United didn’t want to sell me. They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen.”
“Al Hilal were very kind. They spoke to my agent. Then I spoke to my wife.
“She asked: what do you want to do? She always supports my decisions.
“It would have been easy to move there. I know the Portuguese players there very well. But I want to play at the highest level and compete for major titles. I can do that, and I still want to. I’m very passionate about football.”
Fernandes’ love for United is abundantly clear with this recent decision from the Portugal international, showing how determined he is to be a part of United’s resurgence.
Equally Amorim’s vocal desire to retain Bruno Fernandes shows how key the midfielder is to his ongoing plans, expecting him to play a key role as always going forward.
Now, with Matheus Cunha already joined United for his love of the club and Bryan Mbeumo equally keen to join The Red Devils, United could have a formidable attack once more.
