Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is a bit slow on the uptake. Today, he expressed his anger at an NFL video for LGBTQ Pride Month. The video was released in 2021.
In an X post, Bryant criticized the NFL Pride message from 2021, which was reposted by a site yesterday.
Quoting from the video, which said, “Football is gay, Football is queer, Football is transgender,” Bryant wrote:
“These are wild statements to make..excuse my silliness. I’m going to proudly tell my boys football is none of these things. I have nothing against Gays but this is far from right.”
Football is gay
Football is queer
Football is transgender.. these are wild statements to make..excuse my silliness.
I’m going to proudly tell my boys football is none of these things.

Bryant, whose mom is gay, never explains what’s “not right” about a message of inclusivity. Bryant continued along the same theme after getting pushback and some praise.
“It’s gay players in the NFL..but forcing it in people’s faces..especially children..can send the wrong message…Football is a real community, like the gay community. Imagine telling gays they have to advocate for straight people..they probably would have a problem,” he wrote on X.
It’s nice he acknowledges there are gay NFL players, but no one is forcing anything in people’s faces. And gay people advocate for straight people all the time in all types of settings, but as a minority it’s important they be acknowledged.
“You’re digging a deeper hole and making yourself sound ignorant bro,” one X commenter wrote. “It’s not forcing anything, they didn’t make a “GAY Commerical”, the commerical doesn’t JUST say gay things. Seems to me like YOUR focus is other places.”
To which Bryant replied by proving the commenter’s post: “I don’t have a problem with gays… I just stated my opinion.”

Bryant ultimately got sick of the pushback and fell back on a tired trope:
“I hate social media at times because people post fake positive things all the time and get bothered whenever folks have a real conversation…it should be a written rule saying you can’t have an opinion because people are sensitive and all social platforms should be used for marketing purposes only lol.. I bet the goofy fake woke people have the most skeletons in their closet,” he wrote.
Bryant is wrong. He is entitled to his opinion and I’m entitled to mine: He’s a retired wideout who still craves attention and has a problem with gay people.
This is not the first anti-gay thing Bryant has said. Last year, during an erratic screed against an Algerian Olympic women’s boxer he claimed was a man, he wrote, “My mama gay/and she’s free to do as she please. God didn’t make Adam to be with another Adam.”
For someone who doesn’t “have a problem with gays,” Bryant sure loves to prove the opposite.
