Florian Wirtz takes to social media to dismiss latest Liverpool report

The future of Florian Wirtz is still up in the air after two failed bids from Liverpool.

As has been widely reported, the Reds are leading the race for the 22-year-old’s signature, ahead of Bayern Munich and Manchester City, who have since given up interest in the race.

Wirtz wants Liverpool, and the club on their part, are doing everything they can to get him.

The Reds have escalated efforts to sign the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, submitting their first official bid exceeding €100 million (£84 million) as negotiations accelerate.

They also submitted a second proposal after the first was rejected by Leverkusen, who are said to be keen on getting a premium for their star player. The Bundesliga side are also open to getting a Liverpool player plus cash for Wirtz.

Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott were touted as possible players who could be added to the deal. Elliott has since been removed from any move to Leverkusen, but there is a strong positive feeling that a deal will be struck soon.

Wirtz is currently on international duty with Germany. There were reports that he could have his medical any day once Liverpool get the green light from Bayer Leverkusen. For now, talks are still ongoing.

While negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen continue, there has been a lot of reports about Florian Wirtz.

One of the report that made the rounds on Monday is that the 22-year-old has made a request about the possible jersey number he would love to wear when he signs.

The German international is part of the German side to face Portugal tomorrow in a crunch UEFA Nations League tie.

According to a Sky Germany Wirtz wants to have the number 10 kit at Anfield. The kit is currently occupied by Alexis Mac Allister. However, the 22-year-old has taken to social media to dismiss those reports.

Taking to social media Wirtz said:

“Who says I want the number 🔟

I respect players

Don’t believe everything that’s written..”

Interestingly, GIVEMESPORT had earlier reported that should he join Liverpool, Wirtz would wear the No. 27 jersey he initially wore upon breaking into Leverkusen’s first team in 2020.

The No. 27 holds personal significance for Wirtz, having been his debut senior squad number before he transitioned to No. 10 in 2023.

At Liverpool, this number became available after Darwin Nunez vacated it to take the No. 9 shirt, also in 2023.
