Knicks Make Announcement After Major Tom Thibodeau News

The New York Knicks failed to live up to the hype and fell to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Many hoped this would be the season the Knicks would make the jump to a title-contending team. While they made their first appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, they ultimately fell short, losing the series 4-2.

Since the loss, many basketball analysts and pundits have assigned blame to multiple members of the Knicks. However, one name that came up repeatedly was head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Knicks make announcement after Tom Thibodeau news

On Tuesday afternoon, the Knicks made a major decision and fired Thibodeau. While Thibodeau was a significant reason for the Knicks' success, he was also a contributing factor to their downfall.

Following his firing, the Knicks issued a statement.

"Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans. This pursuit led us to the difficult decision to inform Tom Thibodeau that we've decided to move in another direction," said Knicks President Leon Rose. "We can't thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach.

"He led us not only with class and professionalism for the past five seasons, but also to tremendous success on the court with four playoff berths and four playoff series victories. Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward. Tom will always be a part of the Knicks family and we truly wish him nothing but the best in the future."

The Knicks will now head into the offseason with relative uncertainty. There has already been buzz that the Knicks should trade Karl-Anthony Towns, so this move by the Knicks could be just the first of many this summer.
