Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most sought-after players in Europe following an incredible season for Sporting CP.
Manchester United don’t need an introduction to Viktor Gyokeres.
Ruben Amorim became United’s head coach after building a successful team at Sporting CP, which Gyokeres spearheaded before emerging as one of the top scorers in Europe.
Gyokeres scored 43 goals for Sporting CP under Amorim during the 2023/24 season, before recording better numbers this term when he hit the back of the net 54 times in 52 matches, on top of 13 assists.
This has led to Gyokeres being a summer transfer target for United, although the potential deal has been made complicated by the fact that the Red Devils won’t have any European football next season.
United will likely monitor Gyokeres’ situation before testing the waters with the Sweden international.
Gyokeres, 26, will be keen to complete his big move in the Champions League this summer.
The preparations for the international break have suffered a setback, which may put his potential suitors on alert.

Viktor Gyokeres pulls out of Sweden squad
Gyokeres has left the Sweden national team squad and will not play in the upcoming friendly matches against Hungary and Algeria.
The details for Gyokeres’ absence were very brief, and many believe the forward could have been given some time off to finalise his future away from Sporting CP after a busy season where he won both the league and cup.
It is understood that Gyokeres did a gym session instead of taking part in national team training on Tuesday because he is rehabilitating from a minor injury.
The Sweden national team’s press officer Petra Thoren said, as quoted by Swedish outlet SVT: “In consultation with the medical team, the decision has been made that Viktor will leave the national team squad.”

This means Gyokeres will get the entire summer to prepare for the 2025/26 season.
Nobody knows where he will end up before then but it remains to be seen if United will be part of the race for the prolific Swede’s signature.
Gyokeres’ record on the international stage
Gyokeres has many Swedish goalscorers to take inspiration from and two of them played for United.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is Sweden’s top scorer of all time with 62 goals, while Henrik Larsson ranks fourth with 37 goals.
Gyokeres has some way to go if he is to catch up with those Swedish icons on the international stage.
After making 26 appearances for Sweden, Gyokeres has scored 15 goals after making his senior international debut at the age of 20 years.
