NEW YORK CITY — New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau was fired after five seasons and a conference finals appearance in this year's playoffs, the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.

“Our organization is singularly focused on winning a championship for our fans,” team president Leon Rose said. “We can’t thank Tom enough for pouring his heart and soul into each and every day of being the New York Knicks head coach.

“Ultimately, we made the decision we feel is best for our organization moving forward.”

The decision was made by Rose with the backing of owner James Dolan, according to reports.

Thibodeau, 67, led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals this season, for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

Though, the Knicks failed to make it to the NBA Finals, falling to the Indiana Pacers in six games.

In five seasons, Thibodeau went 226-174 in the regular season, leading the Knicks to the postseason four times.

The Knicks’ 51 wins in the 2024-25 season were their most since the 2012-13 season.
