Manchester City and Chelsea’s stars are facing a longer season than the rest of the Premier League as they gear up for the Club World Cup.

The 32-team competition, which is set to take place in the US, will start on 15 June and end on 13 July.

The overall prize fund will be worth £775million, with £407million divided between all the clubs taking part and £368million awarded on a performance-related basis.

European clubs will earn more for taking part than teams from other continents as the money awarded for participation is based on sporting and commercial criteria.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Club World Cup is a “big” issue for the players as they have only just finished the latest campaign.

Man City finished third in the Premier League table, while Chelsea ended the campaign in fourth spot.

Man City and Chelsea stars to cut holidays short

Borson insisted it’s “ridiculous” the Club World Cup is starting in just over two weeks.

He told Football Insider: “It all feels too rushed in terms of this Club World Cup.

“It’s completely ridiculous that in two weeks’ time, the players are playing another tournament and they’ve barely arrived in Ibiza, Dubai or wherever they are.

“I think the tournament is a big issue for the players, even more so for Chelsea, given their season only finished last Wednesday.”

Jack Grealish drops Man City exit bombshell

In terms of a potential exit at the Etihad, Football Insider revealed on 22 May Jack Grealish has told friends he doesn’t expect to be at Man City next season.

The England international has confided to those close to him that he believes he has been “frozen out” by Pep Guardiola because the manager wants him to seek a move away.

A huge complication in any exit is the 29-year-old’s wages, which are believed to be worth around £300,000 a week.
