Potter Favourite Still on Transfer Chopping Block

**West Ham** manager Graham Potter is still willing to sacrifice one of his favourites in the upcoming summer [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) window cull.

Relatively new Irons boss Potter wasted little time in recalling on-loan midfielder James Ward-Prowse upon his arrival at the London Stadium.

JWP had been warming the bench on loan at high-flying Nottingham Forest when Potter took charge. But his recall at the end of January saw Ward-Prowse firmly establish himself in the manager’s first team, and he was rarely dropped from that point onwards.

It was therefore reasonable to assume that the 30-year-old would be one of the few midfielders expected to remain in East London next season.

However, [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) has been told by a training ground source that Ward-Prowse is very much available for sale.

“He’s still on a list of about seven players who are available for transfer. But the manager won’t be disappointed if he stays,” the source said.

What sort of fee West Ham would be looking for is unclear, though it’s evident the club won’t recoup anything close to the £25m paid to Southampton two years ago.

With Tomas Soucek and Edson Álvarez both expected to depart, the Hammers could be looking at a complete midfield overhaul, with academy graduate Freddie Potts expected to take on a more significant squad role.
