Hereford sign ‘physical and athletic’ defender Quansah

HEREFORD have signed central defender Keenan Quansah from National League North competitors Southport FC.

The 28-year-old who can also play at right-back and as a defensive midfielder as spent the last three season at Southport after joining from Stalybridge Celtic in 2022.

Quansah is the brother of Liverpool FC star, Jarell Quansah, and learnt his trade playing for a host of sides in the North West.

“I am pleased to add Keenan to our squad given the attributes he possesses,” said Hereford boss Paul Caddis to the club’s website.

“Standing at 6 ft 3, he is comfortable across the back line and brings experience with him. A physical and athletic player, he’s someone who has a desire to continuously improve, and he brings the ingredients we love at our club.

“It is important we are particular in our recruitment and having players who can adapt to different positions helps with the tools we have available; Keenan ticks all of those boxes.

“Keenan comes from a footballing family and dedicates himself to football and that can only be a positive for us. We welcome Keenan to our squad and look forward to working with him.”

Southport state that Quansah became ‘a favourite amongst the fans for his reliability and consistent performances’.

He was also named the Staff & Football Committee Player of the Season, for the 2023-24 season.

Speaking after leaving Southport, Quansah said: “I want to thank everyone at Southport from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to support me throughout the years.

“From the staff I’ve worked with and come into contact with, to all the fans. I wish everyone at the club all the success and luck next season.”
