Cole Kmet admits what every Bears fan was thinking about Colston Loveland pick

For basically every person in Chicago, the Bears' draft was exciting. It was the first with Ben Johnson – the Bears' one true savior – at the wheel, which means that every player from here on out is a Ben Johnson Guy, which is to say, essentially, that they're all going to be 10-year vets. (But only some will be All-Pros.)

But if there was one person who maybe wasn't so stoked about the Bears' draft, it was probably Cole Kmet. And by probably, I mean definitely. One moment, Kmet was the apple of Bears fans' eye – so much, that they all actually downloaded his podcast. I don't know if they listened, but you know they downloaded it. The next, he was an afterthought to first round pick Colston Loveland, who apparently does everything Kmet does, but better.

It created an awkward dynamic for Kmet, who's been one of the bigger faces on a team that's been awful for almost the entire time he's been in the building. You could hardly blame him for being a little surprised/resentful, but like he mentioned after vet minicamp on Tuesday, the NFL's a business and there's no reason to think the two of them can't coexist in Johnson's offense.

The Cole Kmet-Colston Loveland dynamic isn't awkward thanks to Ben Johnson

"Cole Kmet says he was at first 'taken aback a little bit' when the Bears drafted Colston Loveland top 10," local Chicago reporter Josh Frydman tweeted. "But [he] said Ben Johnson called him right away to reassure Cole of where he stood & he was all on board. Says the goal is to become the best 1-2 tandem in the league."

Gotta give some credit to Kmet – though that's never been a problem for Bears fans – for being honest here. Being replaced on national television is probably a miserable experience; I wouldn't blame Kmet for feeling like he got the short end of the stick. But what's even more important is that the Bears' one true savior stepped in, made some calls, and ironed everything out. That's what leaders do. If this isn't foreshadowing a 10+ win season, I don't know what could. I just wish a reporter would have followed up on who Kmet thinks is the 1 and the 2 in the league's best tandem. Let's see Johnson solve that one.
