Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff was close to making his much anticipated return to the big leagues earlier this year. However, ankle tendinitis set him back. After recovering from that issue, his return may again be delayed after being struck by a 108.2 MPH comebacker during what was supposed to be his final minor league rehab appearance.

With two outs in the second inning, Woodruff was struck by a 108.2 MPH liner. The baseball hit him in the forearm and he was removed from the game afterwards. He will undergo more testing in Milwaukee on Wednesday, June 4, although initial x-rays were negative for a fracture. Clarity as towards his potential return should be provided after more tests are run.

According to Adam McCalvy at MLB.com, the plan for Woodruff’s final rehab outing in Triple-A Nashville was to include throwing around 80 pitches and going six innings, setting up a potential return of June 9 against the Atlanta Braves. The comebacker he took off the forearm changed that. Depending upon how he feels afterwards, and what the additional tests say, will determine if that plan is still a go or not.
