Will Florian Wirtz become top earner at Liverpool after transfer confirms?

Liverpool fans are buzzing over the possible arrival of Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen star looks set to join the Reds this summer, with talks moving fast and a huge transfer fee on the table.

But while Wirtz may be the most expensive signing in club history, he won’t be earning the most.

According to Sport BILD, Wirtz’s salary at Liverpool will be between €20 million and €22 million per year.

That’s big money, no doubt — but not enough to pass Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk, who are both sitting on hefty £400,000-a-week deals.

Salah still leads the pack, closely followed by Van Dijk, whose new contract made him the highest-paid defender in Europe.

So while Wirtz may be pulling the strings on the pitch soon, he won’t be topping the payroll charts at Anfield.

Wirtz could have chased more money elsewhere. Bayern Munich were ready to offer more, but the German playmaker reportedly had his heart set on Liverpool.

The reason? He believes the Reds offer the best chance to grow, play regularly, and compete at the highest level. Not every player picks passion over paycheck — but this one seems to have.

The reported fee is still being finalised. Liverpool have already made two offers, the latest hovering around €130 million. Leverkusen, though, want a bit more — between €140 million and €150 million — before signing off.

There’s even been talk of a player-plus-cash swap. Names like Jarell Quansah were mentioned, though Harvey Elliott is now staying put.

Which jersey number could Florian Wirtz wear for Liverpool?

As fans await the final green light, there’s been buzz around what jersey number Wirtz might wear.

Some reports claimed he asked for the No. 10 shirt, but he shut that down himself on Instagram: “Who says I want the number 🔟 I respect players. Don’t believe everything that’s written.”

It now seems likely Wirtz could take the No. 27 shirt — a number that holds personal meaning from his early days at Leverkusen.
