Liverpool confirm Caoimhin Kelleher’s departure in permanent deal

Caoimhin Kelleher has officially completed his permanent move to Brentford, ending a memorable 10-year journey with Liverpool (via Liverpool FC).

The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined the Reds from Ringmahon Rangers in 2015.

He progressed through the Academy ranks to eventually become a dependable deputy to Alisson Becker.

Kelleher made 67 senior appearances for Liverpool and leaves Anfield with a trophy-filled resume:

2 Premier League titles

1 UEFA Champions League

1 FA Cup

2 Carabao Cups

1 UEFA Super Cup

Kelleher’s achievements and a new beginning

His name is also engraved into Liverpool’s history books as the only goalkeeper to win four penalty shootouts for the club, an exceptional achievement.

One of the most iconic moments came in the 2022 Carabao Cup final, where Kelleher not only held firm through 120 minutes but also netted the winning penalty against Chelsea.

During the 2024/25 campaign, Kelleher featured in 20 matches across competitions. He played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph.

During a standout run, he made 10 consecutive starts and kept five clean sheets. Notably, he saved penalties in back-to-back games against Southampton and Real Madrid.

This is a feat unmatched for over 100 years. Though primarily seen as a backup, Kelleher consistently proved his value in big moments.

Now, with his switch to Brentford confirmed, the Irishman gets regular first-team football in the Premier League he has always sought.

Liverpool extended heartfelt thanks to Kelleher for his contributions and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.
