Florian Wirtz is on his way to Anfield, as the transfer is getting closer every day.
The German midfielder is Liverpool’s top target this summer. Arne Slot wants him in his squad for the upcoming season.
Bayern Munich and Manchester City also showed interest in the midfielder, but Wirtz has reportedly agreed to join only Liverpool.
The Dutch manager has reportedly proposed a clear sporting plan to the youngster as part of his project — and that seems to be the key factor behind Wirtz’s decision to choose Liverpool over any other club.
Slot might want to use the midfielder in a No. 10 role next season, similar to what Jude Bellingham played during his first two seasons at Real Madrid.
Florian Wirtz has been a consistent performer for Bayer Leverkusen in the last two seasons. He also played a key role under Xabi Alonso in winning the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season.
Wirtz and Mohamed Salah are the only two players who scored 10+ goals and provided 10+ assists in Europe’s top five leagues over the last two seasons.
As per the latest reports by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are very confident of sealing the deal soon.

What did Joshua Kimmich say about Florian Wirtz joining Liverpool?
Kimmich said: “It’s important that he makes the right decision for himself. He’ll have his reasons for making this decision. I hope it’s the right path for him.”
He also added:
“I’ll cross my fingers for him no matter where he goes. As an FC Bayern player, I would have of course wanted him to come to us. I know him from the national team and played with him — I’m focused on having him as a teammate in the national team.”
The German side tried hard to bring Wirtz to the Allianz Arena, but the midfielder made up his mind to join only Liverpool.
Looks like many German players at Bayern also tried to convince the midfielder, but Wirtz stuck to his decision — he only wants to play at Anfield.
