Lauren Hemp, Jess Park and Alex Greenwood all featured for England in their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday evening.
It was a second successive start in the June international break for Hemp and Park with Greenwood selected to feature from kick-off for the first time since returning from injury.
In England’s penultimate game before the 2025 EUROs begin, Sarina Wiegman’s side looked ready to challenge the World Cup champions.
And they did just that when Alessia Russo fired England ahead on 22 minutes with a fine finish, with the Lionesses also able to hold onto their lead come the break.
However, super substitute Claudia Pina scored a second-half brace for the hosts to see Spain progress to the semi-final of the Nations League.
England’s second-place finish in group three means the Lionesses remain in League A.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Abbie Smith was named as an unused substitute in Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia Herzegovina as they confirmed their second-place finish in League B Group One.
Rebecca Knaak played the first half of Germany’s 6-0 win over Laura Weinroither’s Austria. The latter played out the full match in what was a difficult evening for her nation.
And to complete City’s stars in action for Wednesday evening, Kerstin Casparij played 74 minutes of the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Scotland.
