Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has offered a potential hint about his future amid rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Gyokeres has been heavily linked with signing for United during the summer transfer window. The striker scored 54 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for Sporting last season, helping them win the Primeira Liga title and the Taca de Portugal trophy.
United are being widely linked with signing a new striker during the summer transfer window. Gyokeres is one of the names reportedly under consideration by United, as was Liam Delap, with the Ipswich Town striker expected to complete a £30million move to Chelsea.
Gyokeres, who is also being courted by Arsenal and Chelsea, is reported to have a €100million (£84million) release clause in his contract at Sporting. There have been suggestions, though, that the Portuguese club could be willing to allow the striker to leave this summer for a fee closer to £60million.
Amid the continued speculation, Gyokeres has provided a hint that his future may still lie in Portugal despite being linked with a move away from Sporting. The striker has opened up on why he is enjoying life in Lisbon, hinting that he may not be leaving this summer after all.
“In Swedish culture, people work hard during the week and if they want to do something, they do it on the weekend," Gyokeres is quoted saying in Vogue Scandinavia, via A Bola.
"Here, people also make the most of the weekdays. They come over with friends on Monday or any other day of the week, have dinner and a glass of wine.
"In Sweden, that’s rare. That’s the big difference. Lisbon is one of the best cities in Europe." Most notably, he added: "I feel at home."
Gyokeres is not the only striker to be linked with signing for United this summer. Reports in recent weeks have mentioned RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko as a potential target, while Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is also on the shortlist.
