‘I think’: Ian Wright predicts exactly what will happen to Bryan Mbeumo if he now signs for Man United

Manchester United need to have a big summer transfer window, and they’re not wasting any time in getting their business done.

Matheus Cunha was a strong United target heading into the summer, and now, he’s signed for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are also keen on Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo had been monitored by Newcastle, but now, Manchester United appear to be leading the race to sign the Brentford star.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Mbeumo’s potential move to United, and he’s shared a prediction on what will happen to the attacker if he signs for the Red Devils.

Ian Wright says Bryan Mbeumo will go to another level at Manchester United

Wright shared what he thinks will happen with Mbeumo if he joins the Red Devils.

The pundit thinks Mbeumo could actually go to another level if he goes to United, claiming that he’ll thrive under the pressure that comes from joining a top club.

“When you saw it, like obviously Ivan Toney took all the plaudits at Brentford, but when you watched him then and watched the, you’re looking at it now and it’s more consistent, and you think, yeah. It’s the only thing I’m surprised about with him, is that he’s only 26,” Wright said.

“You know something, if he goes to United I think that he’s somebody that, if he gets in the moments that he’s had for Brentford, for United, he will then realise where he is. Because he goes to another level with the attention from United.”

Attackers who’ve gone backwards at Manchester United

Wright thinks Mbeumo would go up a level if he joined Manchester United, but he’d have to buck a long-running trend in order for that to be the case.

Indeed, there are a long list of strikers who’ve gone backwards since signing for Manchester United.

Almost every attacker United sign immediately goes backwards in terms of output.

Interestingly, Rasmus Hojlund is the only United striker in recent history to improve in his debut season at Old Trafford, but, at the same time, Hojlund has been criticised heavily recently as he has gone backwards again this season.

Sadly, Old Trafford appears to be a bit of a graveyard for attacking talent at the moment, and it’s hard to have any confidence in the idea that Mbeumo will improve at United.
