“Wanted by many clubs” – Monchi confirms interest in Aston Villa player, Emery’s decision on sale

Enzo Barrenechea left Juventus for Aston Villa in July of last year and a month later, he joined Valencia on a loan move.

The midfielder took time before cementing his place at Valencia and eventually became a key member of their squad. The La Liga club don’t have a purchase option or obligation, and he has to return to Villa Park this summer.

Just over a week ago, Superdeporte reported Unai Emery has to decide whether to include him in his plans at Aston Villa or send him elsewhere next season.

Aston Villa director Monchi was a guest on Canal Sur Radio’s El Pelotazo and talked about the Argentine, and Marca have relayed his comments.

According to the official, the 24-year-old is wanted by several clubs across Europe. Monchi insists the Villans will consult Emery before making a decision on his future.

“He’s had a magnificent season. He’s a player wanted by many European clubs. We have to decide if Unai wants to consider him,” he said.

“It’s true that we have many important players in that position, including McGinn, Onana, Kamara, and Barkley. But Enzo has done what was intended: after his time at Frosinone, he would take a step forward, and he has.”

Barrenechea played 2,258 minutes from 33 games for the Spanish club this season. There’s been claims of Real Betis’interest in the South American, but Monchi isn’t aware of this.

“I don’t know if Betis wants him, but he has caught the attention of many clubs,” Monchi explained.

Last week, Tribuna Deportiva Valencia reported Aston Villa are requesting €10m plus bonuses after Fiorentina made an offer for Barrenechea.
