Textor clause pausing Danilo transfer – Nottingham Forest player rejects contract addition

Over the past few days, we’ve covered multiple stories from Brazil explaining how Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has built a good relationship with Botafogo owner John Textor.

This has helped the Premier League club move forward to sign the Botafogo trio of Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha and Cuiabano.

Textor also owns Lyon, who are keen on signing Nottingham Forest’s Danilo this summer. On Tuesday, Globo Esporte stated the Ligue 1 club have offered €25m for the midfielder.

Brazil’s Goal back up Lyon’s offer and then share their own information on the 24-year-old’s stance on this operation.

The Brazilian has an offer on the table from Lyon and is ‘looking forward’ to joining them. He, as per the report, is waiting for the outcome of negotiations between Nottingham Forest and the French club.

During the talks, Lyon put in a clause that can possibly see Danilo move to Botafogo in the future. This didn’t please the player, who joined Nuno Espírito Santo’s side from Palmeiras in January 2023.

According to Goal, if Danilo were to return to Brazil in the future, prioritises a return to Palmeiras. Therefore, he doesn’t accept the clause that could possibly take him to Botafogo in the future.

To sum it up, Danilo is keen on joining Lyon but doesn’t want that specific clause to be part of the contractual offer.

That clause is likely an effort by Textor to placate Botafogo fans and make them believe there’s something to be gained from having a transfer relationship with Nottingham Forest.
