Jadon Sancho 'grateful' for Chelsea experience, despite £5m snub for Man Utd flop

Jadon Sancho has reflected on his season-long loan at Chelsea after learning they don’t want him once the deal expires this month.

The 2024/25 season is over as Manchester United plan to continue rebuilding Ruben Amorim’s squad.

While Matheus Cunha has joined from Wolves as United’s first signing of the transfer window, many players are expected to leave Old Trafford over the coming months.

United confirmed three exits following the last game of the Premier League season, with Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans all set to leave the club at the end of the month.

In an ideal world, many of United’s loanees will follow suit, provided deals can be secured for Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho.

Amorim must also decide which players he wants to keep to enhance his rebuild moving into the 2025/26 season.

Jadon Sancho ‘grateful’ for Chelsea experience

After flopping at United, Sancho had a chance to change his reputation in the Premier League.

The England international had a mixed spell at Stamford Bridge, despite winning the Europa Conference League in May.

Chelsea passed on the opportunity to sign Sancho permanently for £25 million this summer. Instead, they opted to pay a £5m penalty fee to rule out any obligation clause.

In a statement released on social media, Sancho said: “Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home – teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, Thank you Blues.”

Sancho now faces an uncertain future at United, with Amorim unlikely to reintroduce him to the squad.

It remains to be seen whether Sancho would be open to moving to Saudi Arabia, as few clubs in Europe will likely match his current salary.

What’s next for Sancho?

Sancho has the entire summer off to search for a new club.

The winger won the Europa Conference League at the end of last season, in his final appearance for Chelsea, and now he will be aiming to build on that.

It remains to be seen if Sancho will be able to reinvigorate a career that had stalled in England.

Sancho is not part of Thomas Tuchel’s current plans with the England squad, plus his performances hardly warranted selection.

In the 2024/25 season, Sancho made 42 appearances and registered 15 goal contributions.

Hopefully, Sancho’s next move will be a permanent one, away from Old Trafford.
